On the phone, which is where the technician is

A CMMS that only works well on the office computer ends up as one more administrative chore. This one was designed the other way around: the technician's phone first, the desktop second.

What "mobile first" means here

  • Every screen is laid out at 390 pixels wide and then expanded to the desktop, never the reverse.
  • Fixed bottom navigation with the sections for your role, within thumb's reach.
  • Touch targets of at least 44 pixels: you hit them with gloves on.
  • Single-column forms and the right keyboard for each field (numeric, phone, email).
  • Lists are tables on the computer and cards on the phone.

What gets done with the phone in hand

  1. Scan the machine's QR code and see its sheet and history.
  2. Open the assigned work order and tap "Start work".
  3. Tick the checklist as you go, one tap each, no reloading.
  4. Take before and after photos: one button opens the camera, another the gallery. iPhone HEIC photos are accepted.
  5. Log the minutes spent, or run the stopwatch.
  6. Sign with a finger and collect the acceptance signature of whoever receives the work.
  7. Write the summary and complete.

Installable, without any app store

onCMMS is a progressive web app: from the browser menu, "Add to Home Screen" leaves it with its icon and full screen, like any other app. No App Store, no Google Play, no waiting for updates: it always runs the latest version.

It needs a connection: there is no offline mode. What does work without an account, and therefore for anyone, is the problem-report form behind the QR code.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in the browser on both. Being a web app, it does not depend on the OS version or on anyone updating anything.

Does it use a lot of data?

Very little: the screens are light and static files stay cached on the phone. The heaviest part is the photos you upload, and they are resized before being stored.

Can it be used with gloves on?

It is built for that: large buttons and single-tap actions. The signature is drawn with a finger, and there it is worth taking the glove off.

Is there a native app in the app stores?

No, and it is deliberate. A web app installed from the browser gets the same icon and full-screen experience, runs on any phone, and everyone is always on the latest version without an update cycle.
